All the styles you are experimenting with are great..I'm not even sure which is my favourite because they are all good... but Humphrie cat is the best character...so many possibilites..do more with him!!
In response to your ( secret message 00000h mystery)The style is flexible because all your experiments have their virtues. It's the character...as a commentator or a connecting link between the others...you are aiming for a series and Humphrey could tie it all together...the intellectual thoughtful cat...could give an identity to the others..you know? A voice. Then you can go off onassortedwhimsies and then come back to him . I think it could work as a concept....not a trap a way to create a kind of narrative.Ultimately publishing is the goal, you don't want to be poor forever.The style can be altered..I wasn't that crazy about the messy tabloid style becase it was hard to read, so you can move him through your style experiments no problemo...its the character that matters
